Alexander, Edward Porter (1835-1910), a Confederate army officer. Alexander gained distinction as an artillery commander at the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Spotsylvania Court House, and Cold Harbor. His Military Memoirs of a Confederate (1907) is an authoritative work on the Civil War, especially the operations of the Army of Northern Virginia. Alexander was born in Washington, Georgia, and graduated from West Point in 1857. After the Civil War, he taught engineering at the University of South Carolina, and later was a railroad official.
