Golden Gate International Exposition, an exhibition held in San Francisco during 1939–40. It celebrated the completion of the Golden Gate and San Francisco-Oakland Bay bridges. The exposition was held on Treasure Island, an island constructed in San Francisco Bay especially for the exposition. Most of the countries bordering on the Pacific Ocean had displays at the exposition. There were art, architectural, and gardening exhibits. Paid admissions totaled about 17,000,000.
