Strabo, (64? B.C.-19? A.D.), a Greek geographer and historian. He wrote a 17-volume geography based on his own travels (in Europe, North Africa, and Asia) and on earlier writings. It contains interesting, detailed information about topography, history, economics, institutions, and customs. Strabo wrote a lengthy history, covering the Roman world from about 144 B.C. to the founding of the empire, which has been lost.
