Galatia, in ancient times, a region in central Asia Minor, mostly within present-day Turkey. Galatia took its name from the Gauls, who invaded from Europe in the third century B.C. In 25 B.C. Galatia became a Roman province. Its largest city was Ancyra (now Ankara).
