Model Parliament, in English history, the 1295 meeting of Parliament, a landmark in parliamentary development. In 1265 Simon de Montfort, after leading a rebellion and capturing Henry III, had called a Parliament, for the first time including representatives of the common people as well as the lords. In 1295 Edward I adopted this idea and had two knights elected from each county and two townsmen from each borough, or city.
