Moccasin, formerly the standard footgear of most North American Indians. Flexible and noiseless, the moccasin was an ideal foot covering for Indian hunters. Moccasins are still made and are used, to some extent, by both Indians and non-Indians. A true moccasin has no heel and is made of rawhide or soft leather. Moccasins are sometimes trimmed with beads or feathers.
