(1650?-1739), a chief of the Creek Indians. He signed a treaty with South Carolina colony in 1721, and in 1733 welcomed James Oglethorpe to the Creek town of Yamacraw. Oglethorpe established Savannah, the first European settlement in Georgia, nearby. In 1734 Oglethorpe took Tomochichi and his family to England. Tomochichi was helpful to Georgia colonists until his death, and a monument to his memory was erected in Savannah in 1899.
