Winnebago

Winnebago Indians, a tribe of the Siouan language family. French explorers found them living south of Green Bay and inland to Lake Winnebago (Wisconsin). Later the Winnebagos moved to the Fox, Wisconsin, and Rock rivers. They fought for the British in the War of 1812. By treaties of 1825 and 1832 they went to a reservation in Iowa. Later they were moved to Minnesota, and then to Nebraska. Today, many Winnebagos live in Wisconsin.
