Robidou, or Robidoux, family of United States fur traders and explorers of the West. There were five Robidou brothers—Joseph (1783-1868), François (1788-1856), Antoine (1794-1860), Louis (1796-1862?), and Michel (1798-?).
Antoine, the most famous, was born in St. Louis. He trapped in Nebraska and Utah, building a trading post on the Gunnison River (1828), and another called Fort Robidou (1832), in Utah. His stories about California inspired the first emigrant wagon train trip to the Pacific.
Joseph Robidou built a trading post called Blacksnake Hills in 1826. Around it grew the city of St. Joseph, Missouri.
