Thomas Heyward Jr.
Heyward, Thomas, Jr. (1746–1809), a Revolutionary War patriot and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He was born near Charleston, South Carolina, and became a lawyer. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress, 1776–78. Heyward then became a judge in South Carolina and served as a militia officer. He was a member of the state legislature, 1782–84, and was again a circuit judge, 1784–89.
