Liliuokalani, Lydia Kamekeha (1838–1917), the last queen of the Hawaiian Islands. She was crowned in 1891 on the death of her brother, King Kalakaua. While attempting to restore autocratic rule, she was overthrown in 1893 by settlers from the United States, who declared a republic. Queen Liliuokalani renounced her royal claims in 1895.
