Runnymede, or Runnimede, a meadow on the south bank of the Thames River, about 20 miles (32 km) west of London. It was either on this meadow, or on nearby Charter Island, that the English barons forced King John to agree to sign the Magna Charta on June 13, 1215. In 1965 a section of the meadow was dedicated to the memory of President John F. Kennedy.
