Price, Sterling (1809–1867), a United States politician and Confederate army officer. Price was born near Farmville, Virginia. He moved to Missouri in 1831 and served in the U.S. House of Representatives as a Democrat, 1845–46. During the Mexican War Price served as colonel of a Missouri regiment and became a brigadier general. He was governor of Missouri, 1853–57.

Although he had originally supported the Union cause, Price joined the Confederates in 1861 and, commanding militia troops, helped win the Battle of Wilson's Creek. He was made a major general in 1862 and fought in Arkansas and Mississippi. In 1864 he led a lengthy but largely unsuccessful raid into Missouri.
